Teleflex Medical OEM Adds Balloon Catheter Capabilities

Teleflex Medical OEM, a global leader in custom-engineered catheters, announces the addition of balloon catheter manufacturing technologies to its extensive portfolio of in-house capabilities. New product offerings include non-compliant, semi-compliant, and compliant medical balloons for a variety of peripheral, coronary, and neurovascular applications. The business specializes in components for PTCA (percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty) and PTA (percutaneous transluminal angioplasty) procedures.

Already well-known as a single source solution for minimally invasive devices and components, Teleflex Medical OEM has in place the broad expertise across material knowledge, precision extrusion, catheter engineering, balloon forming, folding and wrapping, and other advanced competencies to develop innovative delivery platforms using complex balloon geometries. Unlike some manufacturers who supply only a few components, Teleflex Medical OEM can provide virtually everything from concept development and prototyping, to custom catheters and balloon blowing, and to manufacturing of components, sub-assemblies and finished devices.

A balloon catheter typically features an inflatable "balloon" which is used during a catheterization procedure to enlarge a narrow opening or passage within the body. The location of the balloon may be at the catheter tip or along the shaft. The deflated balloon catheter is positioned, inflated to perform the procedure, and then deflated again for removal. Medical balloons are also used for drug delivery, deployment of a stent or valve, and occlusion.
