Unlocking Innovation In Your Supply Chain

As technical demands continue accelerating across life sciences, pharmaceuticals, and aerospace, organizations are increasingly recognizing that innovation cannot happen in isolation. A recent Forbes Insights study conducted in partnership with IDEX Health & Science explores how supplier collaboration is becoming a critical strategy for reducing risk, improving operational performance, and accelerating innovation throughout the supply chain.
The study surveyed 180 executives across multiple industries and found growing consensus around the value of active supplier engagement. According to the research, 68% of life science executives believe meaningful collaboration with suppliers is essential to long-term success. Companies are increasingly seeking stronger partnerships to improve fulfillment, reduce costs, enhance quality, and optimize internal processes.
The report also highlights how organizations are expanding relationships not only with suppliers, but also with customers, industry associations, and even competitors to better navigate evolving market pressures and technical challenges.
Despite this shift, the study found that many life science organizations still lag behind other industries in collaborative practices. Compared to pharmaceutical and aerospace sectors, life science companies are more likely to maintain a “do-it-all” mindset rather than leveraging external expertise and strategic partnerships.
As supply chains become more complex and innovation cycles continue shortening, stronger supplier collaboration is emerging as a competitive advantage. The findings suggest that organizations willing to build deeper partnerships and improve collaborative capabilities may be better positioned to reduce operational risk, accelerate innovation, and respond more effectively to rapidly changing industry demands.
