Wright Medical Group, Inc. Introduces PROFEMUR Tapered Stem Total Hip System

Ideally Suited for Minimally Invasive Surgical Approach

Arlington, TN -- Wright Medical Group, Inc., a global orthopaedic medical device company specializing in the design, manufacture and marketing of reconstructive joint devices and biologic materials, today announced the launch of its PROFEMUR® Tapered Stem Total Hip System. The new rounded, tapered stem design reduces the potential for implant loosening and thigh pain and requires the removal of less bone from within the femoral canal. The tapered stem feature complements the PROFEMUR® system's innovative modular neck design, which is specially suited for use with a smaller surgical incision.

The PROFEMUR® Tapered Stem Total Hip System is an integral part of Wright's ODYSSEY(sm) Tissue Preserving Initiative, a minimally invasive surgery program for hip, knee and total joint resurfacing procedures. Although many orthopaedic manufacturers and surgeons have developed minimally invasive techniques, Wright offers the only solution that includes an implant system with a design that specifically addresses the most common challenges associated with a minimally invasive approach. The PROFEMUR® Hip System's modular neck feature simplifies implant insertion and reduces the risk of soft-tissue damage. Wright's modular neck technology also offers surgeons unsurpassed flexibility in addressing a wide range of patient anatomies intraoperatively. Through the PROFEMUR® system's new tapered stem feature, the implant also provides improved stability and reduced procedure time.
