Ophthalmic injectables are among the most technically demanding drug delivery formats, and the packaging decisions you make early in development can have serious downstream consequences. The intravitreal market is expanding fast: nearly 70 pipeline programs are currently in development, double the count from 2015, with market volumes projected to grow 7% between 2026 and 2029. Biosimilars are adding further competitive pressure.
But growth brings complexity. Silicone oil contamination, particulate control, endotoxin limits, and dosing accuracy are all live risks in this space, and regulators are not making it easier.
